In two words Kobe nurtured and mentored many but none more important than his daughters, Natalia Diamonte, Bianka Bella, Capri Kobe, and Gianni Maria-Onoore Bryant. Kobe died being a parent. He was empowering Gianni to become the best woman she could be and Gianni died during her journey to be legendary like her father.
Why criticize the NBA in China? To make the words and actions of every NBA employee impotent after they return from their trip from China. Demonize their silence. Make democracy sacred and then question why the NBA isn’t supporting democracy in China. Make it seem as though freedom of speech in America comes without consequences and then justify why rights should come before profits…sounds good don't it?
Why isn't Morey on the hot seat? Why isn't anyone discussing his fatal flaw? Everyone knows how China operates and although I am not a part of the league, I must assume that there was some education given based on how to act while visiting China on business. Morey should have been culturally fluent of Chinese culture before visiting China. The first question the NBA should have been asked, was Daryl Morey educated on how to act while visiting China on a business trip? Let’s not forget, his tweet was during a business trip and not a vacation. As outspoken as the NBA players are, none of them addressed the Hong Kong protest. Why did Morey? Was this a coincidence, misunderstanding, or something more?
Have you ever visited a friend’s house and experienced something whether it was food, music or habits that you didn’t agree with? How did you handle it? Did you come out and say anything or did you hold your tongue. If you did slip and said anything that could be considered offensive did you apologize or were you okay with being disrespectful?
If you are upset about the NBA’s response and you applaud lawmakers in Congress for challenging the NBA to stand up to China, I ask you, how upset are you with the NFL? Are you just as upset that Kaepernick does not have a job in the NFL or do you feel he does not deserve to play in the NFL for disrespecting the flag? Better yet, are you furious that our own country encourages freedom of speech outside the country but frowns upon it inside its own borders?
Our politicians have empowered our athletes and sports leagues with the power to speak out about oppression globally but more importantly domestically. Eight congressmen support democracy and freedom of speech over profits. So let's hold them up to the ideals that they believe in.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EMPOWERING THE NBA AND PROTECTING THE FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS OF THE PLAYERS OF THE NFL?
If you have not read the letter the eight politicians sent the NBA look at it below. Notice how close the language is. America should never demonize athletes or anyone for practicing democratic values within its borders. Compare and contrast the two letters...is the ideal of both letters different or the same?
It never happens until it does. There is a saying, life is about beating the odds, but what are the odds? Why is it that some people make it and others don’t? Why is it called luck if we are preparing for what we know is going to eventually happen? Why is it that we look at data and think it can’t happen? Did the NCAA set up Virginia to lose to UMBC? And why isn’t Malcom Butler being called the Martha Stewart of the NFL? Some say it's all about data or is it?
Everyone has the ability to fight. Everyone has the ability to step their game up and do “more” but will they decide too? Whether your fight is on the sports field, on or in the court, boardroom, classroom, or streets, you have a choice to make, and what you decide will either put you in a better or worse position when the next fight comes.
Have you ever struggled at something new? Do you understand when to do something fast and when to slow it down? Have you executed under pressure while changing pace because your boss has given you an additional assignment? This is all evidence that we all play a sport that we thrive in. This is also evidence that game speed is required in every aspect of our lives.
